The founding members of the Association are: Pedro Meza Meza, founder of the cooperative society Sna Jolobil with more than 900 associated weavers and artsans. Sna Jolobil is one of the most successful artisan cooperatives in Mexico and Pedro Meza was recognized for his work with the Presidential Youth award in 1984. Walter F. (Chip) Morris Jr., author of the award winning book Living Maya, is an internatinoally recognized expert in textil sybmbology and has work with the Mayan communities of Ciapas for more than 30 years. A fluent speaker of Tzotzil Chip is an expert in the field of craft development and has assisted communities across the Americas and in Asia develop their craft industries. Fabiola Sánchez Balderas , author of numerous publications on Mexican popular culture and art, , has work in community development projects across Mexico. .
